Initial Consultation:
Your Journey Begins Here

The Initial Consultation is where we lay the foundation for understanding your pain and charting a course toward relief. This session is more than just an introduction—it’s an opportunity to explore your story, your pain, and your goals in a safe, supportive environment. Here’s what to expect:

a journey to pain relief and empowerment

A Holistic Review of Your Pain Story

First, we’ll dive into your medical history. This is a critical step to ensure that no “red flags” or serious medical conditions are influencing your pain. Before starting, we’ll need confirmation that you’ve had a comprehensive medical evaluation. Your health and safety are our top priorities, and understanding the bigger picture is key.

We’ll also use a variety of tools to assess your pain. We’ll look at its intensity, how it feels, when it shows up, and how it affects your life. These insights give us a baseline to measure progress and help us shape a personalized plan that’s just for you. Think of this as the foundation we’ll build on as we move forward together.

Exploring the Reframe Pain Course

One of the highlights of this session is getting to know our signature offering—the 8-week individualized pain neuroscience education course. We’ll walk you through what it entails, how it works, and why it’s been so transformative for others. Pain education is more than knowledge—it’s empowerment. Understanding pain changes how you experience it, and we’ll show you why this course is a cornerstone of that transformation.

Your Story Matters

But this session isn’t just about assessments and courses—it’s about you. Your history, your goals, and your dreams are at the heart of everything we do. We’ll explore what life looked like before the pain, and most importantly, what you want it to look like again. This is your time to share your story in a safe, supportive, and compassionate space. You direct the session as much as we do.

Demystifying Your Pain

We’ll talk about your pain—the patterns you’ve noticed, what helps, what doesn’t, and how it all began. Together, we’ll start unpacking the idea that pain is more than just a symptom; it’s a signal, a message from your brain. And here’s the empowering part: that message can be changed. Pain isn’t just something to fight—it’s something to understand. And as we explore it, you might discover things about yourself you never expected.

No Wrong Questions

This is your opportunity to ask anything. Whether it’s about pain, the course, or how we’ll work together, no question is too big or too small. We’re here to provide clarity, support, and a deeper understanding of what’s possible.

Your Investment

The initial consultation is R750. However, if you decide to embark on our 8-week individualized course and pay upfront, the consultation fee is waived. It’s our way of saying, “We’re in this together.”

Let’s Start Together

Your pain story is unique, and so is your journey toward recovery. This consultation is about more than information—it’s about hope, partnership, and the beginning of change. Let’s take that first step together and start rewriting your story.

8-Week Pain Education Course

What to Expect: The Journey Over 8 Weeks

The course is structured into eight one-hour sessions, delivered weekly at our pain clinic in Claremont, Cape Town or online for your convenience. It’s not just about listening; it’s about engaging, exploring, and discovering. Each session focuses on a key idea, crafted to challenge misconceptions about pain and foster profound conceptual change.

We don’t just tell you about pain—we take you on a journey using stories, metaphors, drawings, discussions, multimedia, and more. This isn’t your typical lecture; it’s an interactive and empowering experience. Our curriculum, inspired by the work of Lorimer Moseley and David Butler, is designed to rewire how you think about pain and how your brain responds to it.

Key Themes We’ll Explore

Every session brings new insights. Some of the ideas we’ll explore include:

  • Knowledge is power: Understanding pain changes pain.

  • Pain is not the same as tissue damage: It’s your brain’s way of protecting you.

  • Your brain’s protective systems: Sometimes, they can become overprotective, but they’re changeable.

  • The brain’s potential: It produces molecules stronger than opioids and can adapt in extraordinary ways.

  • Your future is brighter: What you learn here will help with today’s challenges and tomorrow’s possibilities.

These are not just lessons—they’re life-changing revelations. We’ll show you how pain works, why it persists, and how you can begin to shift it. The course equips you with a framework to understand pain and tools to navigate your unique journey.

Beyond Education: Putting Knowledge Into Action

Alongside the educational component, we integrate graded exercise and activity exposure. This isn’t about pushing through the pain; it’s about reintroducing movement and activities in a way that feels safe and achievable. Whether it’s gardening, running, or simply enjoying a walk again, we’ll take it step by step, at your pace. You’re in control, and we’re here to guide you with compassion and expertise.

Your Role: Active Participation for Lasting Change

This course is designed for you to engage as much as possible. Each week, you’ll have “homework” to reinforce what you’ve learned and apply it to your daily life. By taking an active role, you’ll not only learn about pain—you’ll start to change your relationship with it. Every session builds on the last, and by the end, you’ll not only know more but feel stronger, more hopeful, and more empowered.
